As you all may (or may not) know, I love my fro-hawks. I stumbled upon this the other day and I thought I’d share it with you.

While I’m on my whole box-braids kick, I thought I’d share this video I found on YouTube. Enjoy!

A couple of tips to keep in mind while wearing box-braids are:

•  Make sure to have at least 3 months worth of new growth if your hair is shorter, to make sure that your braids last.
• When washing box braids, focus on your scalp. let the ends of your hair become clean via the rinsing process.
• Use diluted shampoo in an applicator bottle (read: hair colour bottle) to help direct the shampoo to where it needs to be.
• Do not manipulate or massage the scalp too vigorously when washing. This will only make your hair frizzy or worse lead to damage.
• Make sure to keep hair and scalp moisturized while wearing braids. Just because your hair is in braids does not mean that you throw away everything you’ve learned about maintaining your natural hair. Use a good oil or braid sheen spray to keep your hair moisturized.
• Keep “baby-hairs” looking neat by using a toothbrush and a gel like eco-styler. Place a little gel in the palm of your hand, take the toothbrush and dip it in the gel (just enough to get the ends wet), brush your baby hairs down towards your face and then across or swooped back into your hairline to give hair a finished look.
• Enjoy your braids!

“If you haven’t gone the way of sulfate-free shampoos, then you may want to. Sulfate free shampoos are the best shampoos for natural hair (and hair in general) because they gently cleanse without the harshness of regular shampoos.

Although this is a pretty long list of sulfate-free shampoos, there are still many more good ones on the market you can try. Overall, these listed are all good shampoos AND are also good for those with color-treated hair. Hope this list is helpful!
